Sea Island Quilters held a silent auction at their quilt show this past weekend. I just fell in love with this blue and brown, old quilt laying on the table.
It was mine for a mere $24.00. I'm not very good at dating quilts but it seems pretty old to me. A little bit of wear on it but I don't plan on using it for anything other than draping it over the guest bed. First, the Wild One has to move out so I can make it into a guest room ......but that's for another day.
Each log cabin block is 16" x 16" with a little 2" border around it making the quilt about 66" x 84"-ish. Great find in my opinion.
I also bid on these little shaker boxes. Very heavy wood . . . . . not the paper mache boxes that are around now or even the lighter balsam boxes. And the winning bid.......$1.00. As lovely as the painting is, I think I will have to refinish them sometime in the future.
And the best news this week? Computer Geek graduates tonight from college! Big Whoot whoot on that one. He won't be attending the ceremonies, however, because he is busy working at a full-time paying job already as a computer programmer. Can we get an Amen from the congregation on that one?! He's still at home while he saves money to move out but there is a light at the end of the tunnel . . . . . . I'm just saying . . .
Blessings, Cathi

Wait, they move out??!! And they get jobs and eventually support themselves?? Are you sure, because that gives me some hope here. Lucky you, those are great buys at the auction!
Congratulations MOM! Sometimes I think we work just as hard as they do in getting these degrees!! This little light of mine...I'm going to let it shine...

Congratulations to Computer Geek. Computer Geek Mom and Computer Geek Dad - I know college is a family activity. Love your quilt find and the other treasures.
Love the deals you got....Congrats to your son!!!
Congrats to you and your son. Once he is out you will miss him and what him back, LOL
Sometimes those that move out move back. I'm just saying! Our daughter moved in and out three or four times.
You got quite a bargain on your quilt and on the Shaker boxes. Our local thrift shop had a Shaker box. I thought they wanted too much for a donated item. Then I decided it was a bargain and the money was for a good cause. Evidently someone else thought the same thing because it was gone when I stopped to purchase it. Another thrift shop has a display on top of a cabinet with Shaker boxes but won't sell them. What are they waiting for!
Wgat a wonderful few days - a beautiful quilt, wonderful boxes and a clever, self-supporting (well almost) son.
Congrats to your son! I never heard from you about the happenings this weekend in Kernersville/Colfax?
Amen! On the graduation!!
I think you got a steal on the old quilt. I love the soft colors and the wonderful quilting.
'scuse me while I wipe the drool off my keyboard *s* I am just loving that quilt! Baptist Fans *oh my*
Hang in there - those kids do move out. I'm living proof that it can happen and your nest will be all your own.
Congrats on your fabulous buys. I love the quilt.
And congrats to your son. It is a very good thing he has a job. My daughter graduated a year ago and still does not have a full time job and living at home. It has been tough at times because she wants to be out so badly.
