I'm really liking this Schnibble thing . . . . .

While I said that I wasn't on the 'official' Schnibbles bandwagon, I may have just changed my mind.

I finished this month's 'State Fair' just under the gun.  It's not quilted yet.  I hope quilting and binding are not part of the requirements to be in the parade.  If they are, I'll just have my own personal parade here on my blog.

I think this is the scrappiest quilt I have ever made.  The background is a tan on tan print.  I just can't do white.  It's not in my nature.  Plus every quilt that I have made in the past year is from my stash.  I just have to work with what I have for now.  And I have a LOT.

I just couldn't wait . . . . .

No, I didn't cheat exactly.  I was just so excited to see this one put together that I just went ahead and finished the Between Friends top ahead of schedule.

In the shade

I kind of guessed from Kelly's picture how it should be finished.  I guessed wrong but I still like the way it turned out.

In full sun

I made the same 16-patches in the corners that were in the body of the quilt instead of the 9-patches that were shown on the sample.  I left my 'piano key' border strips the same length as in the original cutting directions.  Then trimmed them down after the whole quilt was put together to fit the 16-patches.

Sorry I jumped the gun, Kelly and Darlene, but this one was just too much fun to stop!

Edit: Yes, I HAD to play with the new Blogger template with this blog, too!  I'm liking it more and more.

My First Schnibble . . . . .

I'm not on the "official" Schnibbles band wagon with 'The Year of Schnibbles'.  I did buy several of the patterns a few years ago at Inman Quilt Cottage (cute, cute shop if you live in the western Carolinas).

This one is called Betsy and is made with the Wicasset charm squares I got from Cotton Charm Quilts (Kelly).

Isn't it just so cute?!  I think I have been bitten by the Schnibbles bug!

Next Between Friends Step - Check! . . . . .

Yup, I'm finished the next step already.  These were so easy, peasy to do that I should have made the big one.  Too bad I didn't cut more out!

I'm really going to like the way this turns out!

Second pick goes to Melanie at Covered Porches and Wooden Screen Doors.  Melanie and I emailed back and forth this morning so I was able to check the wool off the list.

Third winner is Marie at MawMaws Creations.  I emailed Marie this morning but haven't heard back so I don't know what she wants.

"Between Charming Friends" Quilt Along . . . . .

Kelly at Charming Chatter is having a quilt along.  This one is open to everyone, not just the members of the Charming Guys & Girls Quilt Club.  We are only on Week #2 . . . . . cutting the fabric.  You have plenty of time to join in.

Kelly has asked us to post our fabric choices.  Here are mine . . . . .

I picked an older Moda called Legacy 1870 by Sharon Newman for the background with burgandys and shades of brown for my squares.

We are making a pattern designed by Darlene of Quilting Daze.  Darlene was nice enough to let us use her pattern for this project.  She designed a large quilt but she and Kelly adapted it to a smaller mini version.  I'm making the mini version.

Why not join us?  We'd love to have you!

All I can say is WOW . . . . .

After several agonizing days without the computer, I am back on here with a working keyboard and an internet connection.  All I can say is Computer Geek needs to get geekier!

But WOW, have you guys turned out in force.  At first I was responding to everyone with a "Thank you for visiting and good luck" but now I am going to have to do that 'en masse'.

So Thank you for all the kind words and for taking the time to visit.  The contest is open until next Monday.  I will spend (a LONG weekend) checking out all of your blogs and visiting all that I can.

For those of you that are new to my blog(s), you must enter the contest at the post below.

Moving the sewing room AGAIN . . . .

For those of you that have followed me for a while, you know that February a year ago, the Wild One had to move back home due to the economy.  Here is the post about the first move.

Here is a picture of the first sewing room . . . . ..

I moved a big part of it to a new storage building.

But the stuff that couldn't fit in plastic bins went into the dining room.  Sorry, no picture.  I was too embarrassed at how it looked.

Today, it looks like this . . . . .

As I wrote in my Primitives blog this morning, we are having under-the-house structure work done as well as putting down all new floors.  So everything I had in the sewing/dining room is now in the storage building (which is packed to the gills) or upstairs in one of the bedrooms.  I made sure I could at least get to some handwork over the next few days.

The computer is still in the living room at the moment.  Sometime this afternoon the Computer Geek and the Son-In-Law will be disconnecting it and moving it to our bedroom.  I don't know if they can "hook me up".

I sure hope the contractor doesn't take TOO long.  They will be here at 7:00 tomorrow morning!  The hardest wait will be the finishing of the new floors.

Now for the giveaway . . . . .

I have been blogging for almost two years now and can you believe I have never had a giveaway!  I figured it needed to be a big one !!

You know how this works but here are my rules . . . . .

For entry number 1
Post a comment on this post ONLY

For entry number 2
Become a follower on THIS blog.  If you are a quilter, follow my other blog and want to take your name off the other one and just follow this one.....go ahead.....you won't hurt my feelings.

For entry number 3
Post about it on your blog.

For entry number 4
Right click on this picture, save it to your hard drive and put it on your sidebar.

Now for the prizes !!  Since there are 4 chances for you to enter, there should be 4 prizes, right?

First is a collection of my own hand-dyed wool.  Eight pieces of fat 16s for a total of 1/2 yard.  If you work with wool applique you know this is a lot.

Next is a collection of Thimbleberries fabric.  The faux applique panel is on the back of the chair.  There are 15 of those blocks.  Along with the panel is 4-1/2 yards of coordinating fabric.  Several yard and half-yard pieces.

Also is a kit from Benartex and a large spool of piecing thread . . . . .

And finally one of my handmade tote bags that is so versatile, it's ridiculous.  The perfect size for carrying a book, a hand work project or even lunch!

So there you have it. Four chances to enter and four prizes to win.

Yes, international comments are welcome!

And to make it even more fun, I will have the first name I draw pick their prize.  The second name will pick from the remaining three and so on.

The deadline will be Monday, June 14th at 6:00 pm

Good luck and don't forget to tell your friends!!

Blessings, Cathi

Welcome to Shakerwood Quilts . . . . .

I've decided to separate my primitive blog from my quilting life.  I have so much to say about both (anyone that knows me knows this is nothing new !) that I was confusing myself (again, not hard for me).

So welcome to Shakerwood Quilts . . . . a blog just about quilting . . . . but don't hold me to that!
