Christmas past . . . . .

I use the same avatar
for all of my techie programs and forums that I belong to.

I thought I would show you the big picture now.
See?!  It's actually a Christmas picture from 1960.  I'm guessing the year.  My birthday is in January and I look about 2 years old here - maybe 3 - definitely cute!  Remember all the tinsel?!  This is when I was still an only child.

Then others came along and I had to share . . . . .

1963
And then more . . . . .

1969
Yup, that's me on the end with the fishnet stockings.  My first sewing craft project?  Those cute little stockings hanging on the mantel.  I should have been diagnosed as a fabriholic at this age!  Mom sewed the stockings from felt.  I cut out the green appliques from felt and glued them on but still . . . . . a budding applique-er in the making.

Do you remember when you were bit by the sewing/crafty bug?

Blessings, Cathi

I love your little swing coat in the photo:) Oh tinsel. I had forgotten about tinsel and how it went everywhere and with one swipe of our dog's fluffy tail, half of it would come off the tree lol!
Great photos!!

So cute...I have pics from the same era! I was hit by the sewing bug when I was in grade 8...we took Home Ec and I made a huge pillow and continued to sew. Unfortunately, I sewed a lot of clothes back then and am horrified to see some of the dresses I was so proud of! Now I stick to quilts...it's a lot more forgiving!
Cheers...now back to my sewing corner!

I remember sitting under my mother's sewing machine playing with fabric while she sewed clothing. That had to be before I started to school. I can remember using the fabric for doll clothes somehow. Probably just wrapping it around a doll. My most memorable Christmas gift was in sixth grade. My mother gave me an old greeting card box with dish towels stamped with embroidery designs, floss, hoop, and scissors. I loved that. And I can remember hand sewing an apron at school in either first or second grade. It was a gift for our mothers. I had mine done long before the other girls.

My mother didn't sew a stitch. She could only crocheta string and didn't have any crafty ability. It was my big sister who turned me on to crafty things and a relative we used to visit down south a few times. And also being entranced by that weaving loom pot holder maker back in the day that my friends had... then the little knitting
thing you could make a barbie dress out of.. and in 3rd grade I taught myself to knit... definitely early roots of crafting!

Love that little poodle on the shelf; too cute. I was influenced by a grandmother, mother and aunts who sewed, and I loved playing with my mother's thread spools so wanting to make things came very early to me.

What a cutie! I used to sew dolls clothes when I was6 or 7 with my mothers scraps :) Moved onto big girls clothes till I found quilting!

Oh my - we could have been sisters back then! I remember fishnet stockings - oh so worldly. Not sure where I got my craft gene from, certainly wasn't my mother.

Oh how I dreamed of having a green tree with colorful decorations and loads and loads of tinsel! Instead I was destined for a childhood of Christmas memories filled with a tinsel tree and that goofy rotating light *ugh*
Let's just say I am super jealous of you at this point . . . . my second great longing was for fishnet tights. But nope, none of that for me either. In kindergarten I wore bobby socks. By first grade, Mom relented allowed knee socks which stayed with me all the way until I graduated to pantyhose (which didn't matter at that point because I was quite firmly into Levi's and a hoody. That became my signature 'look' which holds today *s*
