Quilts and front-loading washers . . . . .

Here's my thoughts on the front-loading washers:

I'm not real crazy about them. Not today anyway.

I needed to wash this quilt.

I use it in the evening when the a/c seems a little colder.  Sometimes the boys lay their heads on my lap.  Sometimes Nelson feels the need to try and climb on my lap (remember he's almost 100 lbs.)

After washing it today in the front-loading washer, I went to take it out and it was still heavy with water.  I tried the "drain/spin" cycle but it didn't help.  I had to carry it out on the deck and throw it over the railing for it to drip dry. Ran it through the "drain/spin" again and it was ready for the dryer.

So my question to all of you, do you have the same trouble?  This isn't the first time it has happened.  It doesn't happen every time.  Is there any trick to avoiding this?

Blessings, Cathi

I have the same problem with mine but only when the load is too heavy for the washer to spin. I imagine that quilt soaked with water was a little too heavy for it to spin with, just like if I have too many pairs of jeans in there or too many towels. Not sure if that is yoiur issue, but that happens with mine.

I am new to the front loading washer world. Decided to get one since I needed a new washer and figured the older you get the less you want to climb into the other one! Anyway I haven't encountered this issue but sometimes there is water in the soap and or fabric softener cups when the load is done...is this another issue for you?

And, oh...Hello to the other Colleen!

I've had a front loader for a while now. Like Colleen said, I only have this problem if the load is heavy and goes out of balance. But my machine goes cuckoo with the ring-a-ding-ding so I know it has happened and can sort and re-set. Good luck.

I've had it happen with mine in 2 cases...if it's too heavy or if I just have 1 smaller quilt in...now when I do just one quilt I throw a towel or 2 in along with my Shout color catcher and I haven't had any more trouble.

I have not had the problem with mine. I love the front load washer. Our clothes come out so much cleaner. I like Libby's "ring-a-ding".

This is why I bought the largest top loader that GE makes. It is one step down from a commercial machine. I did the same with the dryer. Now, I can wash and dry a King Size quilt with no problems.

Love my front load...never a problem with washing just one quilt or several. My clothes are way cleaner and my electric bill less. :-)

yes, I have the same problem, have to have enough in the washer to balance the load. Sometimes it is a pain to have to find something else to put in the washer so it will spin.

I love mine too, MOST of the time... unless it's a quilt or a small rug or something and I have the very same problem. We live and die by our machines. ;)
